Damp walls: Are you just renovating or are you already insulating?
Schomburg expands Thermopal renovation system with mineral thermal insulation and renovation plaster Thermopal-WSP-120
A new approach to interior renovation: With the new Thermopal-WSP-120, Schomburg presents a mineral thermal insulation and renovation plaster that permanently repairs moisture damage and at the same time provides effective thermal insulation – directly during plastering. The new plaster complements the proven Thermopal renovation system and offers skilled tradesmen a quick and efficient way to seal interiors and improve the energy efficiency of damp walls.
‘In combination with our water-repellent and sulphate-resistant Asocret-M30 multi-mortar, we have created a new system solution that reliably controls moisture and significantly improves thermal insulation at the same time,’ explains Niels Theis, Product Manager for Building Waterproofing and Renovation at Schomburg.
Renovation and insulation in one system
Moisture, mould growth and cold wall surfaces are among the biggest challenges, especially in existing buildings and old structures. Conventional systems usually offer either waterproofing or insulation. ‘We are closing this gap with the new Thermopal-WSP-120,’ Theis continues.
The purely mineral thermal insulation and renovation plaster is the first of its kind in the Schomburg system portfolio. Thanks to mineral lightweight aggregates and a diffusion-open structure, it combines high insulation performance with natural regulation of the indoor climate. ‘The before-and-after effect is enormous: cold, musty wall surfaces are transformed into dry, pleasant surfaces,’ reports Ralf Rathmann from Technical Sales at Schomburg.
More living comfort, less risk of mould
Thermopal-WSP-120 noticeably increases the surface temperature of the wall, thus enhancing living comfort. At the same time, the plaster regulates the climate by absorbing excess humidity and releasing it again when necessary. This significantly reduces the risk of mould growth.
With a possible total layer thickness of up to 120 mm – 40 mm per application – the thermal insulation and renovation plaster achieves a high insulation performance. With a plaster thickness of 100 mm, the U-value of a solid brick wall improves by up to 200 per cent (from 1.51 to 0.48 W/m²K).
Versatile – from old buildings to new builds
Thermopal-WSP-120 is suitable for renovating living spaces as well as for improving the energy efficiency of old and listed buildings, especially those affected by damp and mould. For masonry with high salt content, Schomburg also recommends WTA rapid renovation plaster as a salt-storing intermediate layer.
The new plaster also offers advantages in new buildings – wherever improved indoor climate is required in addition to insulation. Thermopal-WSP-120 is user-friendly to apply: it is easy and safe to apply both by hand and by machine.
With the new Thermopal-WSP-120, Schomburg offers specialist tradesmen a high-performance system solution for sustainable interior renovation – moisture-free, energy-efficient and healthy living.
